Saudi Arabia has announced a new initiative that allows domestic workers and similar categories to obtain or renew their Iqama (residence permit) for a period starting from three months, providing greater flexibility for employers and improving residency services.
The initiative has been implemented by the Ministry of Interior, represented by the General Directorate of Passports (Jawazat), in cooperation with the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development through the Musaned platform. The new service enables employers to issue or renew an Iqama for 3 months or its multiples, instead of being limited to annual renewal only.
What Has Changed?
Previously, employers generally renewed domestic workers’ Iqamas on an annual basis. Under the new system:
- Iqama can now be issued or renewed starting from 3 months.
- Employers can choose quarterly renewal periods according to their needs.
- Residency fees can be paid based on the selected renewal period.
- The service is available for domestic workers and those under the same category through the Musaned platform.
